Institute of Education and Research: University of Dhaka
The Institute of Education and Research (IER) in University of Dhaka, was established by the then Government of Pakistan and the U.S. AID Mission. The Institute started in 1960 with the following objectives:
- Promoting and providing of facilities for Advanced Study and Research in Education.
- Providing teaching as well as guidance to prepare the candidates for degrees like ME and PHD in the University.
- Providing courses of further study for those already qualified to engage in Educational Work.
- Providing services for those concerned with Higher Education in the University Teaching Departments with affiliated and constituent colleges.
Administration and Management of IER
The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive of the University. The Director is the Administrative Head of the Institute. Administration and Management of the Institute is handled by the following bodies, subject to the approval of their actions by the Academic Council of the University:
- The Board of Governors is headed by the Vice-Chancellor who is the Chairman;
- The Committee of Advanced Studies in Education is headed by the Director who is the Chairman;
- The Selection Board for Professorships and Associate Professorships is headed by the Vice-Chancellor who is the Chairman;
- The Selection Board for all ordinary teaching Posts is headed by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor who is the Chairman;
- For appointments to non-teaching posts not below the rank of section Officers the selection board is headed by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor who is the Chairman;
- The coordination and Development Committee is headed by the Director who is the Chairman;
- The Academic Committee is headed by the Director who is the Chairman.

The Institute of Education and Research offers several programs in various fields of courses. These are:
- Four years Bachelor of Education (Hons.) Program
- One-year Master of Education program (day)
- Two year part time (evening) Master of Education program
- M. Phil Program in Education
- Thesis-based Ph. D. Program in Education
