University of Dhaka in Bangladesh
The University of Dhaka was established in the year 1921. It is by far the oldest university in the country and it was founded on July 1, 1921. Sir P.J. Hartog was the first Vice Chancellor of University of Dhaka. All Bangladeshi Universities including Dhaka University are affiliated to University Grants Commission, which is a commission created according to the Presidential Order (P.O. No 10 of 1973) of the Government of Bangladesh.
The University of Dhaka was established in order to cater to the needs of Tertiary Education in Bangladesh. It offers several higher education programs to its aspiring students. The university was set up in Ramna on approximately some land counting 600 acres, and it aspires to build a knowledge based society, which can influence public policy as well as social behavior of the people of Bangladesh.
The University commenced with teachers being sixty in number, three Faculties, with twelve different departments, 877 students and three best quality dormitories for its students.
Presently, the university has 13 faculties, seventeen dormitories, 71 departments, 10 institutes with three hostels and more than 38 research centres. The number of students and teachers are increasing in this University year after year.
The principle of the Dhaka University is to generate new parts of learning and to impart this knowledge to the social order with the help of its students. Since its inception, the university is known to have eminent or notable scholars as faculties who have contributed a lot in the ground of Education as well as research work in Bangladesh.

The University of Dhaka with its colleges and institutes offer a wide variety of courses to its students. Students can acquire Diploma, Undergraduate Degree, Master Degree, as well as Ph.D in relevant fields and thereby, pursue a career in their choice of discipline.
Admissions in the University of Dhaka
Students qualifying for the basic eligibility of admission can apply to pursue Higher Education in the University Of Dhaka. The basic eligibility criterion for admission to undergraduate courses is same for all the colleges which is, successful completion of 12th standard from a school in Bangladesh, or any other country. However, for admission to post graduate courses, the University requires graduate candidates.
Admission to the University of Dhaka, for each of the different courses is based strictly on merit. The online admission form is available to students who qualify to seek admission in the University. Further, admission process for students of undergraduate courses commences in the first or second week of November and this process ends by the month of November.
